Mental Health A Christian Perspective

Greetings all,

This Sunday, we have the pleasure of hearing from Dr Aram Kim. He is an elder from Glenfield Presbyterian church, an experienced psychiatrist, who has served in various roles within local and national church bodies as well as NGOs in a voluntary capacity. This will be a heartfelt exploration of mental health from the perspective of a Christian psychiatrist, mental health through the lens of our Christian faith.

From Aram: We all have ups and downs. But sometimes we experience emotional turmoil and mental health experiences that are hard to make sense of in our own faith journey. Sometimes these are experiences of our own, and sometimes of those around us. This Sunday’s sharing will focus on understanding mental health from the point of Christian faith, recognizing that it is part of all of our lives and what we can do as a community of believers.

Drawing from Psalms 102:1-12, which is a prayer of lament, a cry for help in times of distress, this is a great passage for us to reflect on where we might recognise that these struggles are actually not separate from our spiritual lives, rather, deeply woven into them. For me, this reading is a sharp reminder of God’s presence when we traverse our darkest moments, it is a reminder of the hope and healing that we have in our LORD.

Take a moment to dwell on this passage as we are all affected in some way by the effects of mental health. Be sure to be present to hear from Dr Kim this Sunday about how we as Christians might respond in this space. Bring someone along and let us be encouraged that this is not a journey that needs to be walked alone. May God extend His peace, healing, and compassion through each one of us.

Many Blessings

Josh
