Is He Just Present, or Is He In Control?
Greetings all, well we have the pleasure of hearing from Rev Won Hyuk Joung who has spoken at St George’s previously but if you weren’t here on that Sunday, then take the opportunity to hear him this Sunday. Rev Won and I were at Knox together and he is currently leading a new type of mission outreach in Auckland CBD which takes a particular skillset and a lot of courage, so there is much that we can learn from him. But outreach, mission and ministry is not all about skill, talent, and courage, it’s about one’s heart for God and Rev Won does have that.
Below is a short blurb about what he will speak on, his readings are listed there also so please take a moment this week to read the passages and meditate on them. I will be away again this Sunday to take the service at Belmont and speak to the people there.
“What do you do when life feels like a storm—when everything seems out of control and fear begins to take over? When the waves of uncertainty crash against you, do you see God in the chaos, or do the challenges cloud your perspective? It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the immediate struggles, but what if the real question isn’t whether the storm will come, but how you choose to see God in the middle of it? Is He just a comforting presence in the boat, or is He the One who holds the power to calm the storm?
This Sunday, I’ll be diving into Psalm 107:23-32 and Matthew 8:23-27, where we see both the reality of life’s storms and the reminder that God’s perspective is always higher. Whether we’re facing personal struggles, relational tension, or uncertainty, the storms may feel overwhelming—but we are invited to shift our focus from fear to faith, from the size of the storm to the power of the One who walks with us through it. Let’s explore this together.
Blessings, Rev Won hyuk Joung”
Have a most wonderful and blessed week, be sure to bless someone with a huge smile and an encouragement. We are called to share the loving light of our Lord to our community and the world.
