Discovering True Friendship Through Prayer
I’ve spoken to many people who have felt like a stranger in their own lives, never feeling seen, acknowledged or accepted, wondering if anyone would ever be interested in their story. There have been times in my own life when I've felt this way, this was during periods of sameness, where life seemed to be just rolling past.
I’ve engaged with many homeless persons who are present but unseen because people often avoid eye contact with them, in fact it gets to the point that they themselves stop seeking eye contact with others. I’m sure for all of us, at some point in our lives we wonder, does anyone see us, hear us or know us, do they know the dreams we have, the struggles we’ve experienced, the songs we still have yet to sing.
I know so many people feel lonely, forgotten, ignored, like an anonymous face in the sea of people. Deep down, just like us, they yearn for someone who knows them fully, for someone to love them despite their flaws, even if they might give the impression that they want to be left alone. What if there is a Friend who is available to all, in fact who continues to reach out and even to reach down with an outstretched hand? And what if the key to this Friendship that overlooks our brokenness, is found in something as simple and profound as prayer?
This Sunday, we continue in our series on prayer and although it’s more of a ‘how to pray’ reflection, this might hopefully help us consider a mutual Friendship with God that is cultivated through prayer. And it’s not about saying the right words or having the perfect prayer routine, it’s about being vulnerable enough to reveal our every struggle, in humility and with confidence that you are seen and heard. Join us as we explore how prayer can become the bridge to the ultimate Friendship, a bridge to a companion who knows you better than you know yourself. Take a moment to read our passages, Psalm 25:8-15 and John 15:13-17 and may God bless you as you meditate on His Word.
Blessings
